a poem by Chris Nealon:

(I know prose ... )

I know prose is a mighty instrument but still I feel that plein-air lyric need
to capture horses moving

Surplus of capital; economy tanks; you get called a faggot more

On red seats all around me children learn abstraction and heckle each
other in affordable new media

“This cold world we’re in is full of fresh champagne”

Un snack sólo para mi

When I was a child I thought, In Homeric fashion I will speak to each of
you in turn while laying you low

Now I stick to fragments transmissible, perdurable and the
crossword beauty you can make from them

To all the young Apollos: I’m aiming for the intersection of your swagger
and your ashes

Not that I don’t get it: looking eagerly offends the lords of scarcity

But check those dactyls, fabulous

It’s just too hard to live as though there weren’t some other kind of
surplus

To the masters of prose: Greetings!

I will die before I worship your god

less absolutist

thank you, linder.......

really, i've nothing quite to say about snow.

perhaps there should be a note of gratitude for the day off, the chaise lounge-like leisure, the cookies, (insert the neighborhood scoop-sound of shovels also known as laborieux), the time with my family the stereo played Michael Jackson's Off The Wall against, well then,

yes.

here.

hear my dear

album of the weeks:

here my dear
, recorded by marvin gaye for tamla records in 1978 to generally dismal sales (it flopped) in comaprison to his earlier work, is a human chronicle of pain, the break-up kind. court-ordered to hand over the cashola (alimony) from the sales of h.m.d as well as a cut of the next record to his x anna (sister of berry gordy, owner of motown records), marvin gaye stripped bare in a confessional double album that finds his three-octave-vocal range inhabit, ransom and possess songs that are at the same time bitter and naked, belligerent and tender, churlish and reflective, ireful and seductive, petulant and pleading, sarcastic and threatening. even the album art work suggests as much.......................check it out.

a missing patch

todays weather: Current:Cloudy. Wind: NW at 0 mph. early costelloesque.

last night was a reading at the stain bar hosted by Amy King & Ana Božičević. regrettably i was unable to stay beyond the first three redaers, but i did catch tony mancus. tony's poems are now experimenting with tone, moving from a romantic quasi-confessional lyric to a ashbery-inspired attention to a thought's movement. or it could not be like that at all. check his poems out.

tomorrows weather:
Ice Pellet. 70% chance of precipitation. mackaye & picciottoesque

i'm thinking of starting a new band called NEEDY SAIDWHICH? don't necessarily need the question mark, one mark may be enough.

take my hand, yeah baby

and if i could only look like that when i wipe my mouth.......................

someone i had to see this afternoon handed me (after some pleasantries that included a multiplicity of adjectives) david orr's ny times article which has attracted a few words from some literary folk. ohhh
the greatness. im allowed some snarkiness.................i like matt cozart's examples of greatness (below)

What is great?

1) There's snow on them thar Alps! It's a great day for skiing!
2) Great job on your presentation, Woodrow!
3) Aw man, this goulash is great! You gotta try it, Eleanor!
4) Oh, be sure to watch the bonus materials; they got some great outtakes!
5) Great Scot, is that the reanimated corpse of Richard Nixon, come to eat our brains?!
6) Say, I've got a great idea for a new invention, but who will help me fund it?!
7) Mmm...this sliced bread is the greatest thing since...OH MY GOD. IT'S THE GREATEST THING EVER.
